Last Day at Summerfest

Sunday was the last day of Summerfest. My brother, Jon, and sister-in-law, Julie, invited me to go with them along with their friends, Steve and Carrie. I was the donkey for this day, I brought in two flasks. One for Jon and Steve and one just for me. After we all got some cocktails the first thing I wanted to do was go to "the spot". This is where Steve and Carrie met each other. After a quick stop at "the spot" which I was a little surprised that Steve and Carrier weren't a little more sentimental, Steve came up with a game plan since no one was leaning toward going to any particular stage. We would start at one end and watch 1 or 2 songs and then move on. We started at the Rock Stage where I J Quinn was performing.
Our group with a jag behind them.
We caught only the last couple songs and as we walked by the Tour Souvenir stand we noticed the lead singer standing there. I got a picture of Steve with him. Steve and I quickly decided to alter our plans. We were not only going to go to a bunch of different stages, but we were also going to get our pictures taken with the band.
The next stage was the U.S. Cellular Stage with Adam Taylor.
Me and Adam Taylor.
I didn't want to leave Kate left out, so I grabbed a picture with her.
Steve and Kate.
Our group at the Potawatomi Casino Pavilion, where George Stancell & the Wonderful Ones were playing.
This picture was a little harder to get, but we did. I had to stand on a wall and get the attention of one of the band members who then came and let us go back stage with them. We asked them for a picture and they were really nice. One guy was running around getting the entire band together for us. Then when they asked us where we wanted to take the picture. I said, I wanted to do it out on the stage. They were more than happy to make that happen.
Here I am with George. If you look closely you can see our group over George's right shoulder.
Here is a close up of our group from the stage. They said I was #1.
We then made it over to the Miller Oasis for The English Beat.
This one is kind of funny. I had no idea about this band but apparently they have a rather young female fan following. Here is Steve among the teenage girls trying to get a picture and autograph.
But we got the picture.
The night before was the 4th of July and we were at a big family party. As it turns out, my cousin, Erika, ended up getting rather friendly with one of Tom Brady's friends. We met up with Erika the next day. As we were talking with her about her new friend. Someone made note that there is a 13 year age difference and we questioned if Erika can now be labeled as a "cougar". I asked her if she could make a cougar face for a picture. She quickly said "No way." I said "Come on." Then she said "Fine." That wasn't too hard. Here is our family cougar.
This is Jon's neighbor, Rob, who we also met up with us. He came strolling up with his shirt off and I just started laughing. I tried to get him to flex but this is as close as I could get.
We moved over to Jo Jo's for the Sweet Tarts.
Unfortunately Elvis Costello started play before the Sweet Tarts ended so we didn't get any pictures with them. But during the show I got close enough to get some great pictures.
Here is my new friend, Brit, who I met at the Sweet Tarts.
The last stage of the day was the Classic Rock Stage for Elvis Costello. This is as close as I got.
After the show Steve and I tired to get a photo with Elvis, but we got no closer than his car.
Julie told me half way through the night that we were going to Oakland Gyros after Summerfest. I was so excited. I am always so happy to go there. So here we are afterwards. Plain Gyro Sandwich, extra Pita with a large Rootbeer.
Carrie used to live on the eastside. After leaving Oakland Gyros we drove down memory lane (she actually lived on a street called Memory Lane) to the apartment she lived in. Here are Steve and Carrie on the steps to the apartment.
Here are the Sweet Tarts singing to me.
When we met up with Rob, I had to get a beer slamming contest going. The last time I was drinking with Rob we had two such contests in which I barely beat Rob. So here is the third. Steve took home the gold metal. He might not be so good at musical chairs, but he can slam a beer. Rob the silver and I got the bronze. Rob told me afterwards, that he didn't care if he won or not, he just wanted to beat me.

Rick it was a great time! A couple of comments. I don't think it was the English Beat yet, but Steve will have to confirm since he was the one in the group. Second I love how after the beer slamming contest Rob goes right to his beer in his other hand and takes a drink.

It was not the English Beat. They are old and likely would not have attracted teenagers. The band was called The Frantic.

According to the Summerfest Schedule that I have, it was a very popular band that played at a number of stages called "TBA".
