Today I went to see The Pursuit of Happyness. It was OK. Nothing too spectacular. If you have seen any trailer for the movie you get the gist of the plot of the movie. There are no real twists or turns in the plot. Then again it is based on a true story, so how many twists and turns can there be. Most of the movie is pretty depressing, but as you may guess, there is a feel good ending. The entire movie you feel sorry for Will Smith's character. But then I got to thinking, he was pretty much responsible for his own situation. Your life is what you make of it. In the end you walk out of the theater thinking you should do more with your life. But that feeling wears away by the time you get home. I would give this movie a 5 (based on 1-10). I don't think it is worth the full price.

Dear Ricky, Please explain what Will Smith's character did to deserve his situation. I won't see the movie based on your 5 rating but I'm curious about your comment. What did he do that caused him to be homeless, jobless, wifeless, etc? Drugs? Booze? Lazy or stupid?
I am not sure if this will spoil the movie for anyone. But the movie begins with Chris Gardner (Will Smith) living with his wife and kid. She is working two shifts in a laundry facility of some sort. And he is independently selling bone density scanners. Apparently he invested his entire life savings in these scanners. To become homeless, he continues to fail to sell these bone density scanners and his wife becomes frustrated with this fact and leaves town for New York. Chris decides that this is not the life for him and applies for and eventually get enrolled in the Dean Witter Internship program which does not pay a salary. Being enrolled in the internship there isn't much time to sell the scanners, which apparently he wasn't very good at. So he fell behind in his rent payments. Evenutally got kicked out of his apartment, then out of a mission house. And when he failed to pay his taxes, was left homeless and if he wasn't in line at the homeless shelter early enough, he was force to sleep in subway bathrooms or just sleep on the train.
In answer to your question, even though they don't go into great detail, it appears he came into his situation by a bad investment in bone scanners and his inablity to sell these bone scanners.
I hope Rocky is better. That will be Friday.
I THOUGHT THE GOOD SHEPHERD WAS VERY GOOD. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR SOMEONE WITH A SHORT ATTENTION SPAN. IF YOU NEED BRIGHT LIGHTS AND BAD ROCK MUSIC TO ENJOY A MOVIE, IT IS NOT FOR YOU. IF YOU HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THAT PERIOD IN OUR HISTORY, IT'S EXCELLENT.
